Mission Statement

The mission of the Iberia Middle School Library is to provide access to a diverse collection of resources and a variety of media to meet the information needs of the students and staff and to ensure that the students and staff are effective users of information.   To collaborate with all educators to create lessons that integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum assignments and project.

Library Hours

The Library opens at 7:00 A.M. and closes at 2:30 P.M.  The library is occasionally closed for meeting and classes.  Closing notices are posted on the front door.  The Library will be open for all lunches on most days.  The Library is closed after school unless arrangements are made with the Librarian.

Library Rules

The students, faculty and staff of Iberia Middle share responsibility of maintaining an environment which allows the library to serve the needs of all.  Patrons are expected to maintain a quiet and courteous atmosphere and to respect the rules of the school as well as those specific to the library.  Two specific  rules in the library are: 

  • No food, drink, or gum are allowed in the Library. 

  • A quiet courteous atmosphere must be maintained. 

Students who fail to meet their responsibilities in the library will be asked to leave immediately.  Severe disturbances or repeated offenses are dealt with by the principal.  If necessary parents will be notified about the student's behavior.

Students MUST have a signed acceptable Use Policy on file with the Librarian to use the Internet.

Checking Out Materials

All materials are checked out at the Circulation desk on the computer.

A students must have a valid I.D. to check out a book.  No student will be allowed to check out a book with a temporary I.D., or an I.D. that has been defaced in any way. 

A student may check out 2 books at a time, unless arrangements have been made by the teacher with the Librarian.  Books are checked out for 3 weeks, 15 school days.

All patrons are responsible for any books checked out using their I.D.

Returning Materials

Books may be returned by placing them in the outside drop box, or the return slot on the front of the circulation desk.  Please do not put them on the circulation counter, for they may get lost.

Fines

Student  will be assessed fines of .10 per day when their books are overdue. 

Overdue  and fine notices are distributed every MONTH.  All obligations should be cleared as soon as possible.  A student with library obligations may not check out another book until they have  been taken care of. 

If a book is lost, the Librarian should be notified as soon as possible.  If a student has a problem with the fine they may talk to the librarian and a solution will be worked out.
